Operation Christmas Child.

On returning from Ouagadougou we discovered that all the schools in the Djibo area had received shoeboxes filled with goodies for Christmas… better late than never.  On visiting a friend in the town he informed me that his children had both received a shoebox full of 'interesting' stuff.  He proceeded to tell me that there was one item in the box that his kids really hadn't got a clue what it was for.  Initially they thought it could be a sweet and so they tried eating it, but as it didn't taste very nice they assumed this wasn't the case.  Someone suggested that it was like a lip balm and so a number of the kids tried it on their lips but the substance soon dried up and so they put it to one side for another day.

After relating to me the kids' various attempts of trying to find some purpose for this mystery gift one of the children was sent off to fetch the object in question and on returning I couldn't believe my eyes.  On the side of the tube was written SCOTCH GLUE in big bold letters.

If you are one of those people who put together shoeboxes each year to send over seas… please be aware of the recipient.
